The Wound Healing Foundation was established in 1998 by the Wound Healing Society to improve the quality of wound care through the promotion and support of research and education. Since then, the Wound Healing Foundation appointed a Board of Directors, and held an Editorial Roundtable in New York City in July 2000 to increase the public's awareness of the magnitude of problems caused by the failure of wounds to heal, commonly called chronic wounds, and by excessive healing of wounds, commonly called fibrosis. You can view an article written by Jill Stein for the Reuters Medical News service summarizing the Roundtable. Beginning in 2000, the Wound Healing Foundation awarded the annual 3M Young Investigator Fellowship for $15,000. Because of the large number of excellent grant applications received in 2001, three additional $5,000 awards were given (see lists of winners).
